Rock Rose Gin. We are Dunnet Bay Distillers.  Unsurprisingly, we are located in the spectacular bay of Dunnet, where the freshest of air and the finest of water are in abundance.  Our goal is to create spirits which reflect the Caithness way.  We hand distil slowly, thoughtfully and passionately to  create our exceptional product.

Rock Rose Gin gets its name from our first botanical forage along the cliffs of the Pentland Firth, where Rhodiola rosea was introduced to us by a local herbalist.  A rose in the rocks! Over a thousand years ago, the Vikings would harvest wild exposed cliffs like these to gather Rhodiola rosea.  This was thought to give them the extra strength to continue on their long, arduous journeys.  Our gin uses this botanical and a selection of local as well as traditional botanicals to create a unique taste from the Highlands of Scotland.

We sustainably forage our Caithness countryside to hand select the very best, including the rose in the rocks, sea buckthorn,rowan berries and watermint.  Each year will herald a new vintage. Like a fine wine, our Caithness botanicals are dependent on our climes resulting in a truly hand crafted gin that will subtly change year on year, but is still undeniably Rock Rose.  

Working with the oldest still makers in the world our bespoke pot still, Elizabeth, has been uniquely designed just to create Rock Rose Gin.  Using a traditional handmade copper head along with botanical vapour basket, it is a small batch process of 500 litres to create our gin.  This ensures tremendous care can be applied to achieve best results.  Each bottle is hand waxed and signed before it leaves our wee distillery.

We were in the Top 50 for the Great Taste Awards in 2015, being awarded 3 stars (the best) and we also won Gold place in the gin category for the Grocer Awards 2016.
